Latex 101

The Story with Natural Latex Mattresses
Natural latex is achieving what other recent bedding innovations like air mattresses and number beds have not been able to: offering the consumer a new peace of mind with more potential for comfort. Latex is gaining attention because it is all natural - harvested from rubber trees in Sri Lanka - and offers benefits that are hard to reproduce in other bedding materials. These include being resistant to allergens, mold and mildew. In addition to imported latex foam mattresses from Sri Lanka, some companies are beginning to produce latex that can be found in more firmness variations, adding a soft firmness to the latex mattress lineup.

Types of latex
Talalay latex: is a mixture of natural latex and artificially created latex, which is mixed and suspended in a soap particle solution (the soap is washed away before its sold) while full natural latex is 100% au natural. The difference is that natural latex breaks down much sooner (in 25 to 50 years) than the mix.

UniLatex: It is made from the same formulation of natural latex and usually as synthetic as Talalay.

Cost of Latex
Latex is expensive because it is pure latex rubber, and lasts a lifetime. It’s usually not more expensive in the long run and can actually be cheaper.
